Fire Art PhotosThermal Lance in ActionAs the Thermal Lance burns, it throws out molten metal, rock anything in it's way. A thermic lance is a blowtorch that uses steel and oxygen as a burning agent instead of acetyline gas and oxygen like you would use in a blow torch. The thermal lance burns at 7,000 to 8,000 °F which is hot enough to melt rock. This also means that it's hot enough to melt through anything that melts at a lower temperature than rock, which means you have to be very careful where you aim the torch because it will burn a hole through a 1/2" thick steel table in seconds. This image was taken at Burning Man 2006.
